Position Overview

 

The Lab Technician will be a key member of the Lab Operations team, supporting the daily execution of laboratory activities that enable research, development, and analytical testing for innovative therapies targeting liver disease. This role is hands-on and focused on maintaining efficient lab operations, preparing materials and samples, performing routine analytical assays, and ensuring a clean, safe, and compliant laboratory environment.  The successful candidate will work closely with scientists, researchers, and cross-functional teams to support ongoing laboratory activities, maintain operational readiness, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Key Responsibilities
 

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment at all times.

  • Perform cell thawing, expansion, cryopreservation, and general cell culture activities following defined procedures.

  • Perform analytical techniques such as flow cytometry, RT-qPCR, ELISA, and cell-based assays according to approved procedures and SOPs, ensuring accuracy, reproducibility, and compliance.

  • Prepare samples, reagents, standards, and controls in advance of assay execution, ensuring proper labeling, handling, and storage.

  • Track laboratory supplies and consumables, restock inventory, and coordinate ordering as needed.

  • Perform routine maintenance, calibration, upkeep, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.

  • Maintain sterilization protocols and support biosafety standards throughout the laboratory.

  • Handle and dispose of laboratory waste in accordance with safety and environmental regulations, including hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

  • Maintain accurate and complete records, including equipment logs, maintenance records, inventory documentation, and assay data.

  • Adhere strictly to all safety policies, biosafety procedures, and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate effectively with other departments including researchers, scientists, and quality control personnel to support ongoing experiments and maintain efficient laboratory operations. 

  • Participate in identifying opportunities to improve workflows, organization, efficiency, and laboratory processes.

  • Undertake additional responsibilities or special projects as assigned by management to support departmental goals.
     

Qualifications
 

  • Hands-on laboratory experience in an academic, biotech, pharmaceutical, or research environment preferred.

  • Experience with aseptic technique and mammalian cell culture required.

  • Experience with flow cytometry, qPCR, ELISA, or related analytical assays considered an asset.

  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask effectively.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team environment.

  • Comfortable lifting up to 30 lbs and pushing up to 200 lbs with assistance.
