Research Associate I/II - Process Development

​

Position Overview: 


As a Research Associate I/II (RA I/II) in the Process Development (PD) team, you will provide key technical contributions to develop and characterize manufacturing processes for cell therapy products and support analytical development in a Process Analytical Technology (PAT) framework. The ideal candidate is an eager learner and team player, who has a demonstrated track record of meticulous task execution in the laboratory. Background in PSC biology is desirable and previous experience in Cell and Gene Therapy PD or bioprocessing is an asset. Further, the candidate will be a self-driven individual who will seek out and take advantage of development opportunities and demonstrate continued growth and improvement. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 
 

  • Contribute to the development and optimization of cell therapy manufacturing processes, focusing on quality, scalability, reproducibility, and regulatory compliance. 

  • Perform tasks that support Process Development activities and project goals, demonstrating increasing autonomy and competency. 

  • Contribute to experiment planning, conduct wet lab work, and assist with data analysis. 

  • Follow, author, and review standard operating procedures. 

  • Support other functional teams to facilitate technology transfers. 

  • Culture, differentiate, and bank pluripotent stem cells. 

  • Prepare common reagents, buffers, and consumables. 

  • Perform varied assays and collect data.  

  • Collaborate within and across teams.  

  • Operate process development equipment and instruments and contribute to their upkeep and maintenance. 

  • Actively contribute to workplace safety and related policies, including taking on available roles within the organization to ensure compliance.  

  • Maintain a focus on continuous improvement and refinement of the team’s workflows.  
     

Qualifications: 
​

  • MSc or BSc in Bioengineering, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field 

  • For RA I: MSc or BSc with 2+ years of experience in process development, ideally in cell therapy.  

  • For RA II: MSc with 2+ years or BSc with 4+ years of relevant experience in process development, ideally in cell therapy. 

  • Hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture, ideally in pluripotent stem cell culturing and differentiation.   

  • Experience in bioprocessing, including operation of stirred tank bioreactors and suspension cell culture, is an asset. 

  • Demonstrated expertise in flow cytometry, qPCR, and ELISA.   

  • Analytical thinking skills, understanding of descriptive statistics and data presentation.  

  • Effective verbal and written communication.  

  • Excellent organizational skills and effective time management. 

  • A history of contributing to problem solving within a team.  

  • An open and trustworthy nature, a readiness to be mentored and to mentor others and pitch-in as needed.  

  • Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma is an asset.
